Mental health can affect anyone, at home or in the workplace. Knowing how to recognise when someone may be struggling, start a supportive conversation and signpost them towards appropriate help can make a real difference.

Our mental health qualifications are awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA), with different levels available depending on how much knowledge and responsibility you require.
Choose from our four courses below to find the training that best suits you or your organisation.
A practical introduction to mental health awareness and supporting others.
This four-hour course is suitable for employees, individuals and organisations looking to improve general awareness of mental health.
Learners develop an understanding of mental health, common conditions, stress and how to recognise when someone may need support. The course also looks at how to start a supportive conversation and when to signpost someone towards professional help.
This course is a good starting point for organisations wanting to increase mental health awareness across their workforce without requiring everyone to become a Mental Health First Aider.
Qualification: FAA Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 4
Duration: Approximately 4 hours
Our First Aid for Mental Health course develops the skills and confidence needed to recognise when someone may be experiencing poor mental health and provide appropriate initial support.
Learners explore a range of mental health conditions, stress, the impact of drugs and alcohol and how to use a structured First Aid for Mental Health action plan.
The course also helps learners develop confidence in starting supportive conversations while understanding the boundaries of the Mental Health First Aider role.
The aim is not to diagnose or treat mental health conditions. It is to recognise concerns, provide initial support and help someone access appropriate professional assistance.
Qualification: FAA Award in First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 5
Duration: Approximately 6 hours / 1 day
This is our most comprehensive First Aid for Mental Health qualification.
The two-day programme is suitable for people who may have additional responsibility for supporting mental health within a workplace or organisation.
It explores a wider range of mental health conditions in greater depth and considers the support and treatment that may be available through healthcare professionals.
Learners also develop their understanding of supportive conversations, stress, substance misuse, Mental Health First Aid action planning and creating a positive approach to mental health within the workplace.
In Scotland, the qualification is awarded as the FAA Award in Leading First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 6.
Duration: Approximately 12 hours / 2 days
